Melt Studio + Gallery presents Happiness, a new solo show by encaustic artist Susan Wallis featuring twelve new pieces inspired by “The Red Balloon”, a thirty-four-minute short directed, written, and produced by Albert Lamorisse. The movie follows the adventures of a young boy who one day finds a sentient, mute, red balloon. The movie was filmed in the Ménilmontant neighbourhood of Paris, France. It won numerous awards, including an Oscar for Lamorisse for writing the best original screenplay in 1956 and the Palme d’Or for short films at Cannes.
Wallis has incorporated the childhood innocence from this movie into a series of playful pieces that take place in the Canadian landscape.
On now until October 3 at Camp Picton, 343 County Road 22, Picton.
