Encouraging economic and audience development
In 2022, we brought back both Art in the County and The Maker’s Hand fine craft show after a two-year pandemic hiatus, and helped local artists sell over $200,000 of of art through three signature events – The Maker’s Hand, Art in the County, and PEC Studio Tour.
Supporting/promoting the arts and artists
• PEC Arts Trail celebrated its 15th anniversary with the distribution of 27,000 copies of a bilingual guide encouraging art lovers and collectors to visit the unique galleries open year-round
• Awarded over $6000 in grants to support 6 artists’ creative work and career development through the Artist Fund, including our Public Art Grant to Tomas Del Balso for his Forever Wild mural installation in collaboration with Carbon Art & Design; Market Development grants to Nell Casson, Krista Dalby, and Angela Lavender; and a professional development grant to Karole Marois
• Ran two month-long Artist Residencies (June 2022 and January 2023) supporting Video Artist Vanessa Rieger and Filmmaker Kamee Abrahamian with free studio space at the County Arts Lab, and collaborated with the Drake Devonshire to award multi-night residencies to 3 local artists: Ambivalently Yours, Krista Dalby, and Andrew Faulkner
• Conducted over 70 interviews promoting local artists and arts events on Artscene on 99.3 County FM, our weekly radio show
• Promoted over 150 local arts events through Artscene newsletter (1500+ subscribers) and What’s On event listing
• Received the highest number of entries for the 5th anniversary edition of the Wind & Water Writing Contest the theme of “Connection”
• Featured over 180 artists, galleries, and organizations through their Member Profiles on countyarts.ca
• Provided artists and arts organizations with 300+ hours of free or subsidized space for exhibitions and rehearsals at the County Arts Lab
Building a healthy and resilient community through the arts
• Launched the County Arts Lab! Since our launch in February 2022, we’ve welcomed 600+ arts class participants through our doors, with nearly 400 unique residents of all ages attending 400 hours of artist-led courses and workshops
• Run 3 9-week series of Art for Wellness workshops in partnership with Community Care for Seniors, the Recreation Outreach Centre, and Addictions and Mental Health Hastings Prince Edward (workshops provided for free thanks to a grant from the Huff Family Fund)
• Launched Art Together, our free weekly drop-in art-making studio program, open to all residents 16+ (the pilot project was supported by the Government of Canada through the Healthy Communities Initiative)
• Awarded an Artists in the Community grant to glass artist Kirei Samuel to run “The Power of Words” glass art workshop with children in partnership with the Hub Child & Family Centre
• Launched the Indigenous Voices Fund with a special event – In Conversation with Jennifer Podemski and Shelby Lisk: The Arts as a Platform for Indigenous Storytelling and Activism
• Led arts advocacy campaigns during both the 2022 Municipal and Provincial elections
