August is a busy month at Melt Studio + Gallery, with lots to see from both local and visiting artists!
Power & Passion – Tom Ashbourne
Canadian sculptor Tom Ashbourne is known for creating captivating works in stone, mixed media, and metal, where timeless elegance meets modern abstraction. Guided by an innate curiosity and a natural ability to think in three dimensions, Ashbourne transforms raw materials into compelling sculptures. His deep appreciation for texture and form infuses each piece with its own energy, power, and passion.
On exhibition in the Focus Gallery until Saturday, August 24th, 2025. Meet the artist at the Opening Reception on Saturday August 2nd, 2025 from 1-4 PM.
A Walk With Paper 2.0 – Works by Cindy Lam
Toronto-based artist and papermaker Cindy Yan Lam explores themes of slowness and the passage of time through her process-driven practice. Working with handmade paper and stitching, her highly tactile work reflects a deep engagement with materials and their potential for reflection and restoration. This exhibition invites viewers on a quiet walk to consider paper’s materiality as an antidote to our screen-saturated lives. In an age of fleeting digital images, Lam sees paper’s tactility and permanence as offering reprieve.
On exhibition in the Format Gallery until Saturday, August 24th, 2025. Meet the artist at the Opening Reception on Saturday August 2nd, 2025 from 1-4 PM.
Pages From My Studio: Susan Wallis Solo Show
For over two decades, Susan Wallis has immersed herself in the ancient art of encaustic painting, coaxing luminous stories from molten wax and flame. Through years of devotion, she has cultivated a voice that is unmistakably her own—one that resonates deeply with collectors and sparks the imaginations of fellow artists.
This solo exhibition brings together the many series born of her creative journey: from the Birch Tree Worshipping series and her mystical lake scenes, to her reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood and her delicate Bird’s Nests. It also unveils her newest body of work, the Goddess series—a tribute to feminine strength, mystery, and renewal.
On exhibition August 21st- September 21st, 2025. Meet the artist at the Opening Reception on Saturday August 23rd, 2025 from 1-4 PM.
Field Notes – Kathleen Dawson Solo Show
Field Notes explores the beautiful environment of Amherst Island Ontario where she and family spend summers. Kathleen’s mixed media artworks combine observational drawings of local natural specimens with painterly rural and lakeside landscapes in her own unique style of scientific field notes.
