The cool, wet spring has been a downer for some but our fungal friends have been soaking up this opportunity to fruit into all sorts of dreamy mushrooms! All mush-lovers, tall and small, are invited to join in a fungi frolic in Delhi Park on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 from 1-2:30 PM, where we’ll seek out a variety of mushrooms to marvel at their beauty, discuss their pivotal role in life (and death), and practice some basic identification skills.
This is part of the Department of Illumination‘s Delhi Park Project which is transforming Picton’s Delhi Park into a dynamic hub of creativity and community with their new mobile art studio.
Everyone is welcome! There is no fee/cost to participate or requirement to know anything about mushrooms.
Bring yourself dressed for the weather (rain or shine!) Mushroom/fungi flair, accessories, themed clothing, hats, pins, patches, costumes, etc are not required but VERY encouraged. If you have a favourite fungi field guide you can bring it along – we’ll provide a few for reference. A phone or small notebook is also handy to take notes and pictures if you’re keen.
A wee mushroomy snack will be shared. We promise you’ll live to tell the tale!
Meet in Delhi Park, Picton, at the Department of Illumination mobile art studio near the community gardens; if driving, use the Lalor St. entrance – free parking on-site. There are several trails you can take by walking/rolling/strolling, like through Glenwood Cemetery to the west, down the hill from Bowery St or the Mary St parking lot to the north, or from Richmond/Nicholas Sts in the south-east.
Following this fungal frolic there will be an opportunity to create mushroom-themed art with the Department of Illumination team between 2:30-4 PM, as well as participating in their weekly community picnic and live music or DJ from 4:30-6:30 PM – so stick around!
