About Department of Illumination

The Department of Illumination was founded in 2013 by a group of artists in Prince Edward County who came together to create the Firelight Lantern Festival. This annual celebration has grown to become one of the most beloved cultural events in the County. Six years later, the group expanded their work with ICE BOX PEC, which took place at Macaulay Heritage Park in February 2019. They recently became an incorporated not-for-profit organization, The Department of Illumination Artistic Company, with a mission to create magical arts experiences that are accessible to all community members.

The current Artistic Director is Krista Dalby. Krista is a multi-disciplinary artist with a passion for community building. Krista is a past host of Artscene, the Prince Edward County Arts Council’s weekly arts program on 99.3 County FM, and she can regularly be spotted at festivals around Ontario running art programming for kids. Krista is the recipient of the 2019 Community Arts Builder Award from the Prince Edward County Arts Council and the 2016 Arts Recognition Award from the Quinte Arts Council.
