ANDARA Gallery presents Waiting, a solo photography exhibition and book launch of new works by Tara Wilkinson. The exhibition is now open virtually on ANDARA Gallery’s website and in-person beginning June 11.
Unable to travel due to the pandemic, Wilkinson traveled back through her photo archives, through three decades of images from over 25 countries. Looking through black and white images of daily life taken during several trips along Cuba’s north coast between 2014 and 2018, she found a common thread among these images: everyone was waiting – for food or medicine, for transportation, for someone to come home.
Drawing a correlation between the experience of some Cuban citizens pre-COVID and the universal experience we have all shared during this pandemic, Wilkinson was careful to strike a balance between individuals and crowds, children and seniors, friends and strangers – all waiting in different environments.
An accompanying photography book also titled Waiting, including additional photographs and stories, will be available to purchase at ANDARA Gallery. An audio tour will also be added to the exhibition to create an immersive experience for visitors, sharing behind-the-scenes commentary and details.
