Tom Ashbourne’s studio will be one of six new locations on this year’s Studio Tour. One of the longest running and most diverse juried studio tours in Ontario, the 26th edition will feature 47 artists from the County and beyond.
Tom’s stone sculptures are abstract, inviting each viewer to experience the piece within their personal context, interpreting its meaning according to their own desires. Unlike most media, stone sculptures are created by removing matter.
Tom’s technical knowledge comes from training under two renowned Canadian artists: sculptor, David Boorne and painter, Barbara Whelan. They taught him to explore ideas and style, embrace experimentation, and to be himself with stone and other materials. Tom also takes inspiration from his cherished collection of diverse sculptural pieces, collected over the years.
One of the more recent members of Arts on Main Gallery, Tom has also been awarded several Art in the County Jurors’ Choice Awards (2017 & 2018).
