Night Moves is the new solo show by encaustic artist Susan Wallis.
What happens after dark?
When darkness falls, the landscape undergoes a quiet transformation. Familiar places become mysterious, shadows lengthen, colours soften, and the ordinary gives way to imagination. Night Moves explores this shifting world that emerges after sunset—a world where the boundaries between reality and memory, observation and wonder, become less defined. As human activity fades, nocturnal creatures begin to stir, moving through forests, fields, and waterways under the cover of darkness. Illuminated by moonlight and starlight, the landscape reveals a hidden rhythm, inviting us to consider the life, mystery, and movement that continue long after the sun has disappeared.
Show Dates: September 3rd-27th, 2026
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 5th from 1-4 PM
Also on display during the Prince Edward County Studio Tour, September 18th–20th, 2026
Also on exhibition at Melt Studio & Gallery is Woodland Spirits, a solo show by Jan Mills. On now until September 20th, 2026. The artist states: “This series was born out of a very rare and vivid dream, a Marketplace listing for vintage handsaws, and the memory of a earthenware piece by artist Carl Beam; all while I was in the hospital recovering from complications following treatment for my second round with cancer. Not only did the saw handles remind me of the shamanic images that I recalled from Beam’s work, they represent a time when humans only took what they needed and were very respectful of our codependency with nature. Here’s hoping we can return to that relationship.”
