FLIGHT Festival is a new outdoor festival celebrating diverse and Indigenous contemporary dance taking place at Festival Players’ BMO Pavilion at The Eddie August 18-22. Directed and featuring performances by Arwyn Carpenter, Carol Anderson (Sephardic Songs, Garden Solo), Sophie Dow (Mountain Duets), and Kristen Foote (Dances for Isadora), including Ritmo Flamenco, Syreeta Hector (her body as words), and many more, along with a traditional hoop dance to open the evening. Pre-show chats will be offered each evening, with performances introduced by local figures including Sonja Smits, Judith Burfoot and others. Tickets to a digital screening also available for August 24.
The Festival will also act as a meeting ground for expression and education, including children’s morning dance classes, workshops on Indigenizing Ideas with movement, and ApHeart – a Community Dance Project featuring senior dance artists and musicians, gathered together to dance for the earth to an improvised score by Julia Aplin and Carol Anderson.
