Nature’s Aviators Artwork Unveiling

Base31 is hosting a Community Open House on July 9 from 12-6 PM. As part of the event, the Nature’s Aviators artwork will be unveiled at 12:30 PM in the Aviator’s Garden.

Over the past century, Base31 played an important role in the nation’s aviation history, first as an air training base, and in the decades since as a hub for local flying clubs and aviation lovers. Prince Edward County is home to over 300 bird species, which reminds us that aviation is not just a human endeavor.

In reverence of all things that fly, Base31 invited artists to explore the theme of “Nature’s Aviators,” and in April 2022, a formal call for submissions was launched for large-scale original works to be installed on the exterior of one of the Base’s buildings.

The installed winning submissions by Portia Chapman, Bill Greaves, Frank Hannan, Milê Murtanovski, Steph Payne and Vanessa Rieger will be unveiled, with the goal to beautify the exterior façade of the former Officer’s quarters at Base31.

There will also be food, music, walking tours and more – admission is free. Please pre-register here.
