About Vanessa B. Rieger

Born and raised downtown Toronto, Vanessa Rieger grew up spray painting on the streets of Toronto until she started working for city funded graffiti transformation projects and mural initiatives.

She attended high school at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts, majoring in Theatre. She then went on to OCADU to refine her skills in fine arts, graduating in 2009 with a degree in Drawing and Painting.

Working for her family business to put her through school, Rieger grew up in wood-shops and is trained in carpentry. Combining her skills in fine art, wood working, set design, analog video and performance, this helped her develop a multidisciplinary art practice that gives her audience an immersed A/V experience.

Rieger has worked with various music festivals and bands providing live VJ visuals specializing in projection mapping. Such festivals include: Electric Eclectics (Meaford), WAVELENGTH (Toronto), WAYHOME (Barrie), Venus Fest (Toronto), UP HERE fest (Sudbury) and River & Sky festival (Field). Bands include: Hooded Fang, Lido Pimienta, WEAVES, LALABAND, Phedra, etc.

Some of her creative inspirations include haunted houses, sci-fi movies, practical special effects, VHS, surveillance and social art collaboration. Currently she works as a professional arts technician, gallery installer, fine art framer and art handler.

Rieger moved to Picton Ontario in 2019 where she has a wood-shop and studio space at Loch Sloy Business Park. She has been involved with various local PEC arts initiatives such as the Firelight Lantern Festival, Ghosts of Camp Picton, Picton Night of Lights/Spirit in the Square and Terror at Macaulay.
