County Arts is thrilled to partner with the Municipality through the new Public Art Program to present a series of workshops aimed at providing artists with opportunities to build skills to aid in the creation of Public Artworks. County Arts is the County’s Public Art Program Administrator and as we plan our commissions and first few projects we are offering these workshops to prepare artists to respond to future open calls. Scroll down for more information and to register for these FREE sessions.

For this workshop, join artists Chrissy Poitras and Kyle Topping of Spark Box Studio for a practical session on navigating applications to public art open calls. In this workshop, Chrissy and Kyle break down the application process into manageable steps, sharing the tools and strategies they use to develop compelling applications, plan projects, and work within real-world constraints.

In Fall 2023-Winter 2024, we ran the very first County Arts Mentorship Program (program page here), which brought together 10 mentor-mentee pairs working in a wide variety of disciplines including painting, poetry, furniture making, ceramics, writing, dance, and more. Mentors, who were selected following an Open Call and Peer Assessment process, were compensated for their time, and Mentees also received an honorarium to help cover their costs.
We invite you to view the Mentorship Program Highlight document here including photos and testimonials, as well as this 3-minute video for a glimpse into the success and impact of this program, which was funded by the Government of Ontario through a Seniors’ Community Grant. We thank them for their support!
