Melanie Day was born in Somerset, England. In 1975, she immigrated to Canada and settled in Toronto, where she attended OCAD University.
During the ‘8os she opened up a clothing store on Queen Street West, where she produced and sold her own label and line at her store. Her clients included many rock bands where she designed clothes for their music videos and stage performances.
In the ’90s Melanie closed her store and moved into the film and TV industry as a scenic and special effects props builder, where she worked on many films and TV commercials. At this time, she was very productive with her art and painting practice. In 2010, she started painting full-time, and in 2015, she moved from Toronto to Port Hope for 9 years, where she opened up Gallery 34 and showcased her own work. Recently she closed the Gallery and has since moved to Picton.
Melanie’s work has been in exhibitions in Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Mexico and Atlanta. Her work has been featured on Cityline TV, Steven and Chris, and The Marilyn Denis Show, along with many features in design/home magazines and newspapers (most recently House and Home).
Melanie has had Gallery representation for 16 years with Art Interiors, where her work can presently be found, as well as County Creative Gallery in Picton.
Melanie takes appointments to view her work at her studio, and is also available for commissioned paintings. Call 289-251-0304 or email melanieday4@gmail.com to set up an appointment or for any questions.
