A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Andrew Csafordi applies rich layers of imagination and adds materials such as wood, metal or fibre to create his 3D “sculptural” works. Andrew is a master of the ancient technique of encaustic painting–using pure melted beeswax mixed with dried pigments or oils and demar resin. His unique style brings viewers into an organic sky or landscape unlike any other. His luminous, textural works call out to be touched and invite viewers to become explorers within his dream-like compositions.
Andrew’s contemporary works explore themes of life below the surface, roots that ground the world above and fences that create real and imagined boundaries. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His work has been discussed in numerous publications. Andrew’s work is held in both private and corporate collections.
In 2007, Andrew and his wife, fibre artist and photographer Tara Wilkinson, moved to Prince Edward County, where he paints full time from his studio. They restored a magnificent century-old barn and charming chicken coop on their lovely farm, turning them into seasonal art gallery spaces to show and sell their work. In 2019, the couple are opening a third art building on their property, a newly-constructed year-round contemporary art gallery and event space … Andara Gallery.
Members of the year-round Prince Edward County Arts Trail since 2009, a program which guides thousands of art lovers, collectors and buyers to participating galleries. In 2015, Andrew and Tara were recognized by the Prince Edward County Arts Council with a Business Excellence Award for their contribution to the Arts in their community. In 2018, they received Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence as a 5-star rated destination
