Winding Down
Artwork by Claire Sarfeld.

Come celebrate the opening of Winding Down at Hatch Gallery. This very special exhibition features brand new paintings by third generation Canadian Abstract artist Paul Sloggett RCA and emerging artist Claire Sarfeld, a recent OCADU graduate who studied with Sloggett.

Paul Sloggett, AOCA, RCA, graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1973. Sloggett is a member of what has been described as the third generation of artists inspired in their painting style by Painters Eleven in Ontario as well as painters from New York, such as, Frank Stella and Kenneth Noland. He joined OCA as a faculty member part time in 1978 and in 2001 became a full Professor of Art in Drawing & Painting. In his professional practice has produced 26 solo exhibitions in painting and site specific installations across North America.

Claire Sarfeld graduated from OCADU in 2016. She studied with Hatch Gallery artists Paul Sloggett RCA and Daniel Solomon. Sarfeld says that she lets herself fall in love with paint and colour. She works to combine her signature abstract style with pops of colour outside of traditional colour palettes. She combines wild splashes of paint intertwined with the marks of her collected and handmade tools, she immerses herself with neon, metallic and thick globs of paint.

In a related event, Baxter Arts Centre and Hatch Gallery are hosting an Artist Lecture with Claire and Paul on Thursday September 7th from 3-5 p.m. at Hatch Gallery. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.

Winding Down runs from September 7th-October 30th. 8 Stanley Street, Bloomfield.
