The newest playhouse in the region is a theatre on wheels! Station Road Arts Collective presents the launch of Roamin’ Theatre Roulant with their debut performance of The Boxcar Cowboy, an original stage play by Conrad Beaubien.
When trains once ran in Prince Edward County, there were workers, passengers and drifters. And then there was the teen from Hillier who rode the rails and came to be known across the country as The Boxcar Cowboy. Based on a true story, it is one saga of many that forms the chronicle of a region.
Launching Saturday July 16 at Picton’s Benson Park (King Street), the Roamin’ Theatre Roulant will be leaving the Picton Fairgrounds at 1 PM, arriving at Benson Park at 2 PM. Be on the lookout for a couple of characters from the cast around town in the afternoon before the evening performance. The Boxcar Cowboy will be showing at 7 PM outdoors. Audience members must bring their own chairs and admission is PWYC. Suitable for all ages – look for the brightly coloured theatre wagon!
Roamin’ Theatre Roulant will be performing The Boxcar Cowboy on Friday July 22 at 7 PM at Honey House Cafe, Consecon, and at Base31 on Friday July 29 from 7-9 PM and Saturday July 30 from 2:30-4:30 PM. Pre-registration for the Base31 events is required. Admission is free. Click here to register.
