Artscene September 2025 Edition

Quilting the Progression of Queer Rights in Canada is an update on Bill Stearman‘s travels, quilts, stories – and why it all matters.

For ten weeks, Bill has travelled throughout Canada – speaking with quilting groups and Queer groups about his quiltivism, teaching workshops focused on ‘comfort quilts’ for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, and interviewing Queer seniors about their lives during decades of significant changes in Queer rights.

In this presentation, Bill will highlight a few of the more interesting visits, tell some stories from selected interviews, summarize trends he’s noticed, share a few of his more recent quilts, and reinforce the importance of continued activism and focus on Queer rights.

Bill’s presentation takes place Sunday, September 14th, 2025 at 7 PM at The Andrew, 31 King Street, Picton. Free admission with a donation at the door to The Department of Illumination.

Bill has selected The Department of Illumination to receive donations from this presentation, as they spread joy and creativity throughout our community and they build community while providing a safe space for all. Their values also align with Bill’s personal views for inclusion and equity.
