Artscene August 2023 Edition

Melt Studio and Gallery
Distant Shores by Susan Wallis.

There’s lots to see and experience at Melt Studio and Gallery this month!

First, encaustic artist and Melt Gallery Owner Susan Wallis’ solo show, Shorelines, continues until August 13th. Healthy shorelines are vital for maintaining the overall health of a lake or other body of water, and maintain clean water quality, prevent erosion, reduce impacts of flooding, and provide habitat for wildlife. For Susan, the shoreline possesses a deep meditative quality. Walks along the shores of the lakes in Prince Edward County provide moments of deep peace and clarity and inspired this series of serene paintings. Accompanied by 3-dimensional works by guest artists Leisa Rich, Mona Rutenberg, Jennifer Anne Kelly and Nina-Marie Lister, this show explores the fragile beauty of Ontario’s shorelines.

Next, the annual Moon-themed show, The Moonwatchers, returns for its third season. The moon is a celestial object that has a powerful pull on our oceans, lives, and art. Celebrate this wonderful showcase of work by talented Canadian artists, August 18th-September 17th. Opening reception August 19th from 7-9 PM. All are welcome.

The Floral and the Feminine by Marielle Simzer continues until August 20th. Primarily a self-taught artist, Simzer spent a lifetime loving and exploring art. Every moment she spends outside in her garden, in the woods, or on the water provides endless inspiration. Predominantly an oil and palette knife artist with an impressionist style – the art she creates is about combining all the layers of her life into something visceral, sometimes messy and unique.

In the Format Gallery, Jennifer Anne Kelly’s Handwritten runs until August 27th, which explores the nearly extinct art of handwriting through glass art.

Also offered by Susan is Pause, a unique art and nature experience that encourages participants to pause in nature. Learn to engage all your senses and embrace the beauty of nature, bringing that beauty into a piece of art created under the guidance of Susan, as well as Herbalist Tamara Segal or Bay Woodyard of Honey Pie Hives and Herbals. Allow yourself the opportunity to step back from the cares of everyday life and simply be. Visit meltstudiogallery.com/about-workshop to learn more. Upcoming Pause experience with Susan Wallis and Bay Woodyard is from 10 AM – 1 PM on August 12th and with Susan Wallis and Tamara Segal at the same time on Saturday, August 26th.

Melt Studio and Gallery is open Thursday-Sunday from 11 AM – 5 PM. Located at Base31, 343 County Road 22, Barrack 3 (Dieppe Road).
