Howard Goldberg
Howard Goldberg, Turtle Crossing, Archival Inkjet Print on Hahnemulhe Hemp Matte 290 g paper, Limited Edition number 1 of 10

As a Prince Edward County Studio Tour guest artist at Melt Studio and Gallery, Howard Goldberg is exhibiting his photography, generative art, and videos in Turtle Dreams until October 30th. What do turtles dream of? We don’t really know, but it’s fun to speculate.

Howard graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film production at Concordia University. He’s edited and directed over 30 documentary feature films, receiving numerous Gemini’s and Canadian Screen Awards. His documentary BEING DOROTHY, was nominated Best Feature Documentary by the International Documentary Association. He takes pride in working closely with directors and writers to help render their work on film. A love for storytelling and music are at the center of a seamless editing style, inviting audiences to inhabit the world of the films’ characters.

Since moving to Prince Edward County in 2015, Howard’s photography has broadened beyond his needs as a filmmaker. He’s now treating his photos as raw material for a completely new, computationally based, generative art practice. His current photographic work is highly influenced by his passion for experimentation. Using computer algorithms that he’s developed himself, Howard seeks to render surprising and emotionally pleasing abstractions out of his original photographic input. His works are marked by unpredictable and complex “emergent” qualities which seem to resemble natural processes. Time, nature and colour are important components of his impressionistic approach.
