Gauguin from the National Gallery

Artscene March 2020 Edition

Gauguin from the National Gallery
Merahi metua no Tehamana by Paul Gauguin, 1893

As part of their Live via Satellite Series, The Regent Theatre presents Gauguin from the National Gallery, London.

The film opens with a documentary about the life and work of Paul Gauguin narrated by actor Dominic West, which explores Gauguin’s extraordinary – and often problematic – artistic achievement, with commentary from his descendants, contemporary artists and world experts. The film examines Gauguin’s legacy not only through the lens of art history, but also those of gender and post-colonial politics, reassessing the artist’s treatment of young indigenous women and his role in 19th century French colonialism. Following is a private viewing of the National Gallery exhibition ‘The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Gauguin Portraits’, just after it opened in London.

Screening is on March 22 at 1PM. Tickets can be purchased in advance at The Regent box office or online- $12.
