A Textile Sampler
Artwork by Mandy Forbes

Experience the diversity and versatility of works by artists, traditional crafters, and contemporary makers featured in A Textile Sampler showcasing the cultural value of craft and the threads that bind modern practices to the rich traditions of fibre arts in the region.

This is a group exhibition curated by Gather in The County Modern Textile Market.

Open weekends in The Barlow Room at The Royal Annex (6 Ross Street, Picton) in April from 11 AM – 4 PM, or by appointment. All are invited to the opening Reception on Saturday, April 6th from 1 to 4 PM.

Accompanying the exhibition are workshops and artist talks taking place in The Barlow Room, the first of which is In Conversation with Po: Rawhide, My Natural Preferred Canvas. In this interactive conversation with local artist Portia ‘Po’ Chapman, participants will be able to touch and hear the many different rawhides, different small drums and share what they see in the natural recording of life as commemorated on each drum face. This presentation embraces a part of Nature’s uplifting story. This is a free community event, and all are welcome! Sunday, April 7th from 1-3 PM.

The following weekend on Saturday, April 13th from 1-3 PM, join two of the exhibiting artists, Shannon Gerard and Sara Torrie, to create a length of textile rope as a symbol and tactile prayer for the future. This is a free drop-in event, open to all. The community-made rope will be exhibited at Gather in The County — Modern Textile Market on June 15th.

Finally, learn the basics of embroidery with Nell Casson on Sunday, April 28th from 1-3 PM. All materials will be provided, or bring along your current project and enjoy an afternoon stitching with other artists and members of the community.
