Dan Mangan

On August 24 Dan Mangan will be performing a solo concert at the Regent Theatre. Dan Mangan is a two time Juno Award winning indie rock and folk musician based out of Vancouver. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at www.ticketfly.com. Opening performance by local musician Jeremie Albino.

Concert starts at 7PM on August 24 at the Regent Theatre, 224 Main Street, Picton.

Introduction to String Art

This 2.5 hour workshop teaches students a popular 70’s craft of String Art. Here they’ll have a chance to learn the string art technique by creating one of two beautiful home decor signs. Both designs are 7″w x 12″h and come with a sawtooth hanger and dowel.

Workshop fee is $55, click here to sign up.

Views of Millennium Trail

Capturing the beauty and diversity of the 49 km trail that stretches across the County, Views of the Millennium Trail is a solo exhibition of 6×6 paintings by Gerry Jenkison. Sixty paintings are available for purchase, with 25% of the sale proceeds donated to Friends of the Millennium Trail.

For one day only August 25 from 3-7PM at Baxter Arts Centre, 3 Stanley Street, Bloomfield.

Four Friends – A Retrospective and Slow Moving Pictures

Parrott Gallery presents two new shows. In Gallery 1, four friends- Barry Argyle, Bunny Bates, Trevor Bates and Don Pinder celebrate their friendship and creativity in a combined show featuring sculpture and painting. In Gallery 2, “Slow Moving Pictures” features oil on canvas landscapes by painter Robert Tokley.

Opening reception on August 29 6-7:30PM. The shows run from August 29September 26 at the Parrott Gallery, 254 Pinnacle St, Belleville.

Person of Interest

Written and performed by Melody A. Johnson, Person of Interest is the mostly true and very funny story of an actor driven to the brink. Directed by Rick Roberts, it is storytelling at its best and will strike a chord with anyone who has ever lived, loved and battled with neighbours.

Person of Interest is produced by the Festival Players and performed daily from August 29-September 1 8PM at the Studio Theatre, 310-312 Main St., Wellington. For event info and tickets visit festivalplayers.ca.

The community of Black River on/and near Morrison Point Road in Prince Edward County is celebrating Fall on August 31 10AM-4PM with the First Annual Black River Fall Festival. Explore this historic road to visit art galleries, art studios, an artisan craft barn, organic farms and more. Stroll along this canopied road to find Clayshapes Pottery Studio, Keith Beaty Photography Gallery, Vicki’s Veggies Farm, Quinta do Conde farm, Loyalist Jams, Pat’s Jams, Torild’s artisan craft barn, Morrison Point Farm, and Partnershop Gallery.

Located in the Black River neighborhood, along County Rd. 13, 16, 17 and Morrison Point Road, look for orange poppies in driveways of participating locations.

Rednersville Road Art Tour

Local artists open their homes and studios for this special weekend and invite all visitors to view their work, share their enthusiasm and purchase that unique treasure. All the work presented for sale is original and represents a variety of styles, media and prices.

Participating Arts Council Members include Marion Casson, Florence Chik-Lau, Iris Casey, Colleen Green, Dona Knudsen, Ilona Mayer, Susan Moshynski and Tina Osborne. For a full list of the participating artists and studio locations visit www.rednersvilleroadarttour.com.

Studio doors are open on the Labour Day Weekend August 31-September 2 10AM-5PM.

All studios are located on the Rednersville Road, or Prince Edward County Road 3, along the shore of the Bay of Quinte from Highway 62 at Rossmore. Watch for the signs at each tour stop.

Placido Domingo

The Regent Theatre presents the film “Placido Domingo: 50th Anniversary Gala Evening”, recorded live from the Arena di Verona.

With an illustrious career spanning five decades: over 150 stage roles, 11 Grammy Awards and his iconic performances alongside Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras as one of the Three Tenors, the legendary Plácido Domingo continues to astound audiences with a vocal talent unmatched in power. For one very special night, Plácido Domingo returns to the breathtaking Arena Di Verona amphitheatre, 50 years after his debut, to revisit three of his greatest ever roles.

Film to be screened at The Regent Theatre, 224 Main Street, Picton on September 7 1PM.
