Viktoria Brave is a self-taught emerging textile artist. Their research-creation work explores the entanglements of beings and systems within the Anthropocene — the currently emerging epoch in which humans, individually and collectively, finally recognize their power to shape their lives and surroundings.
Using thread as a research theme, creative metaphor and medium, Viktoria’s practice transgresses the boundaries of disciplines — incorporating the traditional media of weaving, quilting, woodworking and embroidery to express the unfolding story of the 21st century. Their work is tactile, colourful, concept-driven, and hopefully thought-provoking.
Their first solo show — The Emergence of Viktoria Brave — invokes the archetype of the Phoenix and its rebirth cycle to propose an alternative creation myth for themselves as artist and for our civilization.
