About Venus Lukic

I consider myself to be a conceptual artist and painter flirting with the idea of the ‘frame’ in my artwork. My main staple as a visual artist is paint (acrylic and/or oil) on canvas and watercolour on paper. I also enjoy exploring a variety of different media in my work such as encaustic, ink, spray-paint, markers, metal and textile additions, and experimenting with a variety of surfaces such as felt, glass, site and installation work, and at times ‘the body’ in performance. To me, it depends on the greater concept that I am contemplating at the time and finding the best method to communicate my thoughts in a novel way.

In my paintings, which I tend to refer to as figurative abstracts, my major focus is on creating juxtaposition between figures and the environment using colour, shape and emotion. In these I combine elements of the natural and observed world around me and also draw from a mental collection of conscious and unconscious images from my travels, life experiences, and the social world around me.

A few years ago, my journey as an artist led to pursuing a degree in the Creative Arts Therapies and then to opening a private practice: Think Joy Drama Therapy; where I work with individual clients and groups in my role as a registered Psychotherapist and Creative Arts Therapist.
