Trisha Morris is a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for painting with wax mediums. Her journey began when she found a new to her beeswax medium and quickly did a deep dive into the world of encaustic painting. Setting up a small studio space in her backyard shed, she began melding encaustic wax with oils, dry pigments, pastels, inks and charcoal.
When the time came to move, her next house didn’t have a space with the ventilation needed to continue using encaustics. With her love for colour theory and creating texture, Trisha explored many different mediums until she found cold wax. Using cold wax and oil paints, Trisha was able to build layers of texture and colour giving a similar feel to encaustics but with a twist. The layers of cold wax and oil paint set the perfect stage for ‘pulling’ images from the built-up texture. The more Trisha experimented with the cold wax medium the more a dark moody trend began to emerge. This dark moodiness has now become Trisha’s signature style in cold wax and oil.
With a move to Picton, Ontario in April 2025, Trisha’s new studio space once again allows for creating with both hot and cold wax. She is excited to expand her work in both mediums by creating pieces that juxtapose between the light smoothness of encaustic and the dark textures of cold wax. She is currently working on building her portfolio using both mediums while exploring the vibrant arts community in Prince Edward County.
