About Pam Mayhew

Pam Mayhew is a Canadian artist known for her lively abstractions that feature bold, gestural brushstrokes and a joyful palette. Current works allude to land and waterscapes of Ontario and Newfoundland while abstracting the image to allow the viewer room to interpret the compositions according to their sense of landscape, colour and space.

Pam grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, with a family of artists and art collectors. Life in a creative household nurtured her talent and appreciation for art and design. Pam’s Aunt actually lived next door to famed Canadian artist Lawren Harris in Vancouver, and Pam has cherished memories of watching the artistry of Mr. Harris as he painted and responded to her many questions and comments.

Mayhew’s studies include the University of Ottawa (BFA Painting and Art History), University of Victoria (MA Art Education), and formal interior design training at the International Academy of Design (Toronto) and Sotheby’s (London). During her training, she studied under one of Canada’s most important painters, Kenneth Lochhead, OC, with inspiration from acclaimed Quebec abstractionists Yves Gaucher and Charles Gagnon.

For the last few years, Pam has been working on a series of abstracted landscapes that portray the essence, spirit and vast moods of Ontario and Newfoundland landscapes. The paintings allow the viewer to interpret, identify and connect with iconic and interpretive forms of nature.

Pam works in a variety of mediums that include oil and watercolour. She often works plein air and then brings these studies back into her studio.
