About Mark Thompson

Mark Thompson is a Canadian painter whose work blends expressive abstraction with grounded realism, creating vibrant, emotionally charged pieces that bridge lived experience and imagination. Based on the Salmon River in Ontario, Mark draws inspiration from the rhythms of rural life on his small farm, the landscapes and seasons around him, and the resilience found within first responders and their communities.

A correctional officer and former law enforcement professional, Mark discovered painting as a powerful outlet for coping with PTSD and occupational stress. What began as personal therapy evolved into a compelling artistic voice—one that communicates healing, strength, and hope through bold colour, texture, and movement. His work often balances energetic abstract forms with recognizable subjects, such as animals and rural scenes, resulting in a style he calls “Expressive Abstract Realism.”

Mark now shares his art to support others navigating similar experiences, believing strongly in the role creativity plays in mental health and recovery. His growing body of work has resonated with collectors and supporters across Canada. Whether capturing the quiet dignity of country life or the internal landscapes of emotion, Mark’s paintings invite viewers to feel, reflect, smile and reconnect.
