Ed Lehming is a self-taught fine art photographer based in Picton, Ontario with deep connections to North-East York Region, where he lived for many years. His photography is rooted in nature and landscape themes, often exploring the emotional resonance and texture of the natural world.
Ed’s work is significantly characterized by a painterly, impressionistic approach, all done in camera using Intentional Camera Movement (ICM). This technique transforms traditional landscape photography into abstract visual narratives that emphasize light, texture, and mood. His goal is not just to document a scene, but to evoke the feeling of being present in that moment. He also captures traditional landscapes and often enhances these images further by printing on large, brushed aluminum panels to add further depth and energy to the image.
He spends much of his time hiking through minimally disturbed environments, seeking out places where human impact is minimal. This connection to the land is central to his work, allowing him to capture intimate and often overlooked details of the natural world.
Ed describes photography as the art of “seeing deliberately.” He believes in finding beauty in the ordinary and encourages viewers to slow down and appreciate the subtle nuances of their surroundings. His work invites contemplation and emotional engagement.
He is affiliated with A Place for the Arts, an art co-op in Bancroft, Ontario, where he exhibits his work and connects with other artists. For the past 8 years he was an active member in the Stouffville Studio Tour until his move to the County.
His images have been used in numerous publications, web-sites, and brochures, and are displayed both on-line and through his extensive photo-blog.
