‘Mana’, a word that spans back generations, refers to the universal binding force of nature. The natural world is the keystone in my work. I feel a passionate love and connection to nature, whether it’s hiking forest or mountain trails at home and abroad, or growing our own fresh fruits and vegetables at our rural home in Prince Edward County, Ontario. I paint with the hope and goal to evoke the nuances of the energy, motion and movement of nature – and hopefully send positive colour vibrations, light, and ‘chi’ through the air. My earlier representational work fed my leap towards expressive and abstractive work. I now dig ever deeper and draw huge stimulus from my own internal, emotional terrain – it’s like attempting to blend nature and self together – painting with intention, honour, intuition and abandon, all brought together, so as to ‘speak’ from the heart.
Freshness, honesty of expression, courage and honour for the power of nature is the practice I try to keep while I paint ‘my landscape’.
I am painting, showing and selling my work at my personal studio in Bloomfield, at Maison Depoivre Gallery at Base31, Picton, and through other art galleries and art events.
