Comedy Country is Prince Edward County’s Live Comedy Series, a special project of The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival Inc. – a registered charity dedicated to supporting Canadian comedic talent. Established in 2015 by Picton residents Paul and Julianne Snepsts, Comedy Country’s mandate is to bring the very best Canadian comedy talent to our distinctly rural community, and to create learning opportunities for locals to experiment and find their own comedic voice.
Comedy Country is known for its unique and creative approach to creating experiences that show off the very best natural assets of our region, and bring people together around the shared experience of laughter. From an improvised comedy show at a local craft cidery, to a stand up comedy show on a dock where the audience are in canoes and kayaks; from headliner talent at our soft seat theatre, to local merrymakers putting on their first comedy show at our quaint rural playhouse – Comedy Country brings laughter to unexpected places, and offers locals a chance to try it out themselves.
Comedy Country curates diverse live comedy talent from Canada’s comedy centres and presents them in right here in our community. From headline acts like Cathy Jones, Bruce McCulloch (The Kids in the Hall) to urban comics making waves in big city venues like Tallboys and Flo & Joan. County Audiences get to enjoy talent you would never expect to find here, and they get to see their own hilarious neighbours open the shows.
Along with great shows, Comedy Country’s goal is to encourage locals to experiment with their own comedic voices. In the live performance season Comedy Country offers a series of workshops designed to offer locals exceptional comedy training experiences with instruction by some of Canada’s best comedians. And in the off season, Comedy Country offers Free improv drop-in classes, and runs The County Comedy Project – an 8-week comedy boot-camp that leads a group of budding local comedy-curious folks from initial writing and exploration through to their first live comedy performance.
