Andrew Binks is the author of two novels, STRIP and THE SUMMER BETWEEN (Nightwood Editions). His third novel, THE AGREEMENT, will be published in 2026 with Cormorant Books. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from UBC and a BA in Drama from Queens’ University. He has been a finalist in The Writers’ Union Short Prose contest and This Magazine’s Great Canadian Literary Hunt, and placed Second in Prairie Fire’s Non-fiction contest. His story Mona’s Roadkill won the 2020 Wind and Water contest in short fiction. His fiction, non-fiction and poetry has been published and anthologized in Canada (Globe & Mail, Prism etc.) and the US (Harvard Square Editions, Gay & Lesbian Review, HGMLQ etc.). Andrew mentors novelists with the University of Calgary as well as guiding writers towards engaging memoir and the personal essay. He is a story coach at the-word-studio.ca .
As an actor Andrew trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, was a member of the Stratford Festival, and toured his one-man play across Canada on the fringe circuit. He has appeared on film and TV including Da Vinci’s Inquest and The L Word. His narration has included Hockey’s Lost Boy and The Father of Hockey.
