About Amanda Smith

Having recently left Toronto with 15 years of experience working as a product developer, creative director, graphic artist and surface pattern designer, I’m now living and working from the stunning shores of Lake Ontario as a freelance designer in beautiful Prince Edward County. My hope is to slow things down, work on the projects and art that I love and glean inspiration from my surroundings.

Many of my designs begin as digital sketches where I sort out composition and layout. I then work with watercolour, ink or marker on a light table to create hand-rendered elements and motifs. Once I scan all of the elements, I bring them into my design suite where I fine-tune colour and scale and use them to create placement graphics or all-over repeating patterns.

I enjoy working on my own projects as well as collaborating with businesses and brands to create custom artwork. My experience has given me an eye for both mass and specialty markets, and the ability to interpret client-specific needs into real items and designs. I’ve created art that is translated and executed on a wide variety of products from cushions, throws, bedding, home decor and housewares to apparel, accessories and stationery. Over the years I’ve worked with dozens of brands to bring unique items and product lines to life. Brands include House & Home, Roots Canada, Target, Snugabye, Scotties, General Supply Goods + Co., Staples and more.
