Youth Craft Academy – Ceramics: Still Life

Artscene October 2025 Edition

Youth Craft Academy – Ceramics: Still Life
Join artist instructors Carolanne Bédard-Reid and Rebecca Heasman for Ceramics: Still Life.

In this course, participants will explore themes of symbolism and permanence through historic and contemporary examples of still-life art. They will observe the world around them to select a meaningful theme to apply a collection of works developed over six weeks. As in still-life art, possible themes include any inanimate objects or natural items like food, plants, or household items. The first module will focus on two-dimensional. painted cut-outs. In the second module, participants will create a large vessel, carving, extruding and painting the form inspired by their selected theme.

Ceramics: Still Life is for youth aged 12-16. The course runs from 3:30-6 PM on the following Thursdays: November 13th, 20th, 27th, December 4th, 11th and 18th, 2025. Participants are invited to join us before the start of each session from 3-3:30 PM for a snack in the new Arts & Crafts Library.

Thanks to a special partnership with Rue Pigalle, a discounted rate will automatically apply at the time of registration for ALL participants. No application is required. Why this generous discount? Rue Pigalle believes that as a practice and career, craft is a joyful and optimistic way to address the serious issues of sustainability, skills transmission, material literacy, community economy, and equality.

If this discounted rate still remains a barrier, please reach out to Program Lead Katrina Tompkins at katrina@countyarts.ca.
