We are pleased to announce the winners of our 4th annual Wind & Water Writing Contest! We asked entrants from the Quinte and Prince Edward County regions to interpret the theme of Transformation in unique, exciting and creative ways. With over 50 entries, judge Kelly S. Thompson took delight in seeing where local writers took the theme and applied it to their own stories.
Congratulations to this year’s winners, and thank you to all of the writers who submitted!
Fiction and Non-fiction:
First Prize – Arwyn Carpenter for Love Every Inch (Fiction)
Judge’s comments: “This stunning piece was relatable, even for those who haven’t been through a similar experience. The desire to see one’s true self reflected made for a powerful link to our theme of transformation, all with lovely turns of phrase and careful consideration of craft.”
Honourable Mention – Paulette Rothbauer for More than garbage (Fiction)
Poetry:
First Prize – Sarah Williams for The Last Time I Was Your Daughter
Judge’s comments: “This stunning poem captivated me right from the title, and was a visceral, powerful depiction of the transformation of roles with age, time, and love.”
Honourable Mention – Kimberly Stinson for When I Rummage in My Mind
