The Regent Theatre’s Special Screenings pair a short film with a feature film by a Canadian filmmaking team. Director Bretten Hannam will join the audience for a special post-screening Q&A, moderated by Candace Maracle. Wildhood is the story of a rebellious two-spirit teenager who runs away from home to find his birth mother and reclaim his Mi’kmaw heritage.
This special screening on June 6 at 7 PM will also include the short film, Six Strings, about a bitter dispute between rival factions within the Mohawk Village on the Bay of Quinte on June 10, 1800, which escalated into violence and murder. Six Strings is the compelling, revealing and true account of how the Mohawk people conducted their own system of justice, embracing reconciliation and forgiveness with the custom of condolence and commitment to move forward towards peace.
