Solo Reflections I

Artscene January 2026 Edition

Solo Reflections I
Tim Beattie photographed by David Lee.

Tim Beattie, a highly accomplished young guitarist, selected in 2025 as one of CBC’s hot Canadian musicians under 30, pays homage to prolific composer Manuel de Falla. Regarded as one of Spain’s most important composers, Falla is known for capturing the essence and passion of native Spanish music in his pieces. Presented by BIGLAKE Arts, this programme will explore Falla’s influences, legacy and the cultural worlds that shaped his compositional voice.

The centrepiece of this programme is Falla’s Homenaje a Debussy, a cornerstone work for classical guitarists. To complement this work is Saeta por Falla, a contemporary meditation, written specifically for Tim, marking Falla’s 150th birthday. Rounding the programme off are a variety of arrangements for solo piano by Falla, Albéniz and Debussy, showcasing the music that touched Falla’s heart.

Come and chase away the winter chills with one of Canada’s best classical guitarists and heartwarming and passionate Spanish rhythms and melodies! Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 at 5:30 PM (doors open at 5 PM) at the Drake Devonshire Pavilion, 24 Wharf Street, Wellington.
