Artscene June 2025 Edition

Reconciliation Reading Group
Copies of Valley of the Birdtail available at the 50th Anniversary Gala of the Institute for Research on Public Policy where Douglas Sanderson gave a keynote address about public policy in Canada from an Indigenous perspective (2022).

The County Museums invites you to join in on the first meeting of the Reconciliation reading group to discuss Valley of the Birdtail: An Indian Reserve, A White Town, and the Road to Reconciliation by Andrew Stobo Sniderman (writer, lawyer, former human rights policy advisor to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Canada) and Douglas Sanderson (AMO BINASHII) (Prichard Wilson Chair in Law and Public Policy at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law; Swampy Cree, Beaver clan, of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation).

Exceptionally well-researched, informative, and accessible, Valley of the Birdtail is an exploration of two neighbouring communities in Manitoba nestled in a shared valley, yet seemingly miles apart. The book will be our guide as we consider together how did Canada come to be the way it is today? What does it mean to right historical wrongs?

Share space in the historic Macaulay House as you dive together into the important topics the book raises. Hosted by County Museums and Prince Edward County Library, this month’s discussion will be led by local writer Jane Macdonald and museum curator Jessica Chase.

Please come having already read the book. Hard copies and e-copies are available through the PEC Public Libraries, and for sale at Books & Company on Main Street, Picton.

Taking place at Macaulay House, 35 Church Street, Picton. Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. The event is free and open to all.
