Popular Toronto film series Queer Cinema Club is coming to the Regent Theatre this July with a very special screening of a very special movie: But I’m a Cheerleader!
Starring Natasha Lyonne as a lesbian high school cheerleader whose parents send her to conversion therapy camp, Jamie Babbit’s film is a sharp, hilarious, campy satire that was wildly ahead of its time when it was released 25 years ago. It also features an epic supporting cast including Melanie Lynskey, Clea DuVall, Cathy Moriarty, Michelle Williams, Julie Delpy and RuPaul Charles himself in an extremely rare (and hysterical) out-of-drag performance.
The night will be hosted by CBC host (and Queer Cinema Club curator) Peter Knegt and feature a Cheerleader-inspired performance by Kingston drag icon Rowena Whey. You are also encouraged to come dressed up in your own “queerleader” outfit, however you choose to interpret that. No pressure, but there will be a prize pack for the best dressed that includes two tickets to the Kesha/Scissor Sisters concert this July.
Wednesday, July 9th, 2025 at 7 PM at the Regent Theatre, 224 Main Street, Picton. Tickets $12 + applicable fees.
