Power Pops!
Lilac Time by Kurt Swinghammer.

HatchGallery presents Power Pops!, a pop-up show featuring new paintings by talented artists and musicians Tom Wilson and Kurt Swinghammer. On exhibition from August 20th-November 1st, 2024. Open Tuesday to Friday, 11 AM-4 PM or by appointment.

Tom Wilson is a three-time Juno winning musician with multiple gold records. He has written for and recorded songs with Sarah McLachlan, City and Colour, Jason Isbell, Colin James, Lucinda Williams, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mavis Staples and The Rankin Family, to name a few. The discovery of his true heritage and the culture that it carries now informs all of his art and especially his painting. “My art is a continuation of my long way home,” Tom says. “It is my way of showing honour and respect to a culture that I’m just shaking hands with.” Since authenticity is Tom’s calling card in all things, his paintings are in the same vein of truth-telling, story-sharing and heart-stirring as his other art.

Kurt Swinghammer is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. While in his teens he exhibited paintings at a gallery in Niagara Falls, won the Art Award in his final year at high school, and studied at OCADU. After moving permanently to Toronto in the mid-80’s, Kurt became identified with the vibrant Queen Street West scene through his club murals, album cover and T-shirt designs, and art direction for music videos. He has released 12 albums of original songs, worked extensively as a session guitarist on albums by artists including Ani DiFranco and Great Big Sea, racked up over a hundred credits as a film and TV composer, and has performed live on numerous CBC Radio broadcasts and international concerts.

8 Stanley Street, Bloomfield. Open Tuesday to Friday, 11 AM-4 PM or by appointment.
