Music at Port Milford is celebrating 39 seasons of phenomenal chamber music in Prince Edward County! Music at Port Milford presents its esteemed resident artists in weekly concerts each summer, and this summer’s Artist Chamber Music Series, Art and Healing, will provide reflections on the human capacity to heal – through cathartic expression, love, and community.
This season’s performers, known for their positions in celebrated chamber ensembles (Verona, Blair, and Tokai Quartets, Mercer-Park Duo, Warp Trio) and as principal players of major orchestras (Toronto Symphony, Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, National Ballet Orchestra, Orchestre de l’Agora), return to the Port Milford stage for another summer of collaboration and connection in Prince Edward County.
Starting with Catharsis on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, this first concert features string players visiting Port Milford from their leadership positions in Montreal’s Orchestre de l’Agora, the Verona Quartet, and the Blair String Quartet. They are joined by JUNO-award winning pianist Angela Park and guest dancers from the Quinte Ballet School. Music by Poulenc, Mozart, Philip Glass, Nick Revel, and Ernest Bloch.
Next, on Saturday July 26th, 2025, With Heart features the Tokai String Quartet, praised for their “emotional investment” and “decisive” interpretations (Toronto Star) and “intense” and “hot-blooded” performances (Globe and Mail). They are joined by celebrated solo pianist, collaborator, DJ and improviser Mikael Darmanie, and soprano Rebecca Kenneally. Music by Prokofiev, François Couperin, Oscar Peterson, Clara and Robert Schumann, Samuel Barber, and more.
Family & Community takes place on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025 and features Canadian Opera Company concertmaster Marie Bérard, musical polymath Rohan Gregory, National Ballet cellist Paul Widner, and pedagogue Susan Gagnon, who have collaborated as the Port Milford Chamber Players. They are joined by Harlem Chamber Players’ Amadi Azikiwe, MPM Co-Director Charlotte Hill, and PEC’s own Nick Bobas. This program will focus on kinship and community, with music by Kian Ravaei, Haydn, Dvorak, Gustav Mahler, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.
