Artscene July 2026 Edition

Celebrating 40 Years of County Arts
40th Anniversary Open House – July 17, 2026

In 1986, volunteers from every corner of community life — farmers, artists, architects, nurses, hairdressers, librarians, pharmacists, physicians, teachers, retailers, and antique dealers — came together to incorporate the Prince Edward County Arts Council (a.k.a. County Arts) as a charitable organization. Having established the fledgling organization in 1979, their shared goal was simple: encourage the arts in Prince Edward County.

Forty years later, the County has the highest number of professional artists per capita in Ontario and a thriving arts community that enriches all of our lives. County Arts is proud to have helped build the infrastructure required for the arts to thrive here.

This growth could not have taken place without the thousands of community members who annually engage with County Arts. From eager learners who attend classes at the County Arts Lab; to folks who buy artwork at Art in the County; to those who attend The Maker’s Hand, and all the moments in between.

To thank our community for their support, we are hosting an Open House event on July 17, 2026 from 5-8PM at the County Arts Lab. Meet our staff and Board, and see three new exhibitions on display – Water, What do You See? and Here, Today. There will be cake!
