BIGLAKE Festival

Artscene August 2023 Edition

BIGLAKE Festival
Ensemble Jeng Yi

This year’s BIGLAKE Festival celebrates all the things that ground us, nourish us, hold us and make us who we are. BIGLAKE is proud to once again present an incredible array of world-class musicians who will be presenting programmes that are inspired by nature, history, ethnic roots, and explore an array of traditional and folk music from various cultures. The Festival is returning to some familiar venues, as well as having created new venue partnerships to continue to surprise audiences in bringing exceptional and unique concert experiences in different settings across the County.

This season, BIGLAKE is honoured to present for the first time a concert in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, at the historical Christ Church, opening communication lines and exchange by bringing communities together through the universal language of music, in an effort to inspire positive change and reconciliation.

The festival kicks off with the Dior Quartet, one of Canada’s finest young string quartets and recent finalists of the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition. They will present a rich, multi-faceted programme exploring the ethnic roots of each member of the ensemble: Israel, Korea/Canada/St. Lucia and the USA. To round off the evening, they will perform one of the most performed and recorded masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire, the Ravel String Quartet. August 18th beginning at 7 PM at The Grange Winery, 990 Closson Road, Hillier.

On August 19th, discover the intense sounds and dazzling sights of traditional Korean drumming and dancing with Ensemble Jeng Yi. This group has performed in festivals all over the province and they will be making their first appearance in PEC. Matched with the stunning outdoor location at Parsons Brewery, tasty beer and an Asian-inspired menu, this concert is the perfect concert for the whole family! 11:30 AM-12:15 PM at Parsons Brewing Company, 876 County Road 49, Picton.

BIGLAKE Festival runs from August 18th-23rd. For full festival details and tickets, visit biglakearts.com.
