Art & Design: Indigenous Artists’ Exhibit and Sale runs July 23-August 11 at Macaulay Church Museum

Come to a free, rewarding experience this summer from July 23 to August 11 at the Macaulay Church Museum, open 11-4 daily at 23 Church St. Picton.

Creations conceived by 15 Indigenous artists take form in acrylics, oil, watercolours, pen & ink, mixed media, photography, calligraphy and music, as well as sculpted bone, stone, and antler. New this year are creations in fabric and leather.

A special guest artist, Ahsen:nase, will be displaying his vibrant and thought-provoking faces and figures.

Local and world-renowned sculptor, David R. Maracle, will be joining this year. Also his world-traveling brother, Jonathan Maracle, will be bringing his flutes and music to the show.

Another artist, Janice Brant, now has one of her works as part of the “Rutherford Falls” TV series.

Jamie Maracle will add a special touch, with a display of the ancient art of Wampum Belts and their interpretation.

This year, Debra Vincent was commissioned to do a presentation piece for the Archbishop of Canterbury, and it will hang in Lambeth Palace, in London, England.

Narda Kaheri:ne Kathaleen Julg, the organizer and curator of the exhibit, has her designs being worn by a New York Jets player, a senior vice president of Disney and actors from the Mark Taber Forum in Los Angeles, as well as regalia for an actor on the Mohawk Girls TV series, just to name a few.

This is the show’s seventh year and each of the 15 artists will be giving expression to visions from their hearts, allowing viewers the opportunity to step into their world.
