Being creative allows me to channel what lies beneath the surface of my being. The environment influences me a great deal as well as my concern towards its well-being. My Finnish upbringing in the Canadian landscape also plays a huge role in shaping my view of the world and how I project that view. My paintings are the result of exploring, experimenting and a lot of trial and error.
My current works come from years of experimentation with texture, form and colour. Playing with texture by using different mediums and combining brilliant colours inspires me to explore the exciting relationship between the two. Creating rich and potent textures often supplies an element of surprise and allows me to capture the beauty of the mundane and hopefully instigate the viewer’s imagination.
