About County Roads Theatre

County Roads Theatre Company is a small group of mostly Prince Edward County residents with a passion for telling important stories through small independent professional theatre productions. In 2017, we presented The Belle of Amherst, a one-woman show about the life of poet Emily Dickinson. Featuring Joan McBride as Emily and directed by Fred Robinson, the show ran for two weeks at Mount Tabor Playhouse. Audiences loved the play.

In September 2019 we presented Norm Foster’s On A First Name Basis. Staged at Mount Tabor Playhouse, directed by Fred Robinson, and starring County resident and professional actor Joan McBride, and Ottawa based professional actor John Koensgen, this cleverly written play had audiences laughing out loud and moved to tears.

Our next project, Collected Stories, comes to the Mount Tabor Stage in September 2022. The play is written by American playwright Donald Margulies, and directed by County resident Fred Robinson. A wonderful, intimate character study of relationships and the shifting power dynamics between teacher and student, Collected Stories looks at how time, truth, and art challenge and change people and their relationships. That teacher-student relationship is given palpable depth on stage by County residents and professional actors Joan McBride and Melissa Paulson who were themselves teacher and student years ago at John Abbott College’s Professional Theatre Department. We hope you will find the result as compelling as we do.

County Roads Theatre Company works under the terms of the INDIE 2.2 to engage professional artists who are members of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association.
